All welcome! About the seminar The municipality of eThekwini in South Africa is one of the biggest success stories in the world of urban sanitation service delivery. Backed by national legislation making access to water and sanitation a human right, the city of eThekwini (population 3.6 million) has developed a set of creative and diverse solutions for meeting the water and sanitation needs of different areas of the city. Professor Chris Buckley leads the Pollution Research Group at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and has for many years collaborated with the municipality in the development of sustainable sanitation solutions for the entire city. During this seminar he will present how the city has managed to adapt technical and institutional options for sanitation service delivery to match the diverse economic and geographic topologies of the city. The lessons learned from eThekwini offer critical insights for addressing the challenges of urban sanitation. The seminar is co-sponsored by the EcoSanRes program at SEI and SanWatPUA, a Sida funded Swedish research network focusing on water and sanitation in peri-urban areas in developing countries.
