Special Session on gender equity in sanitation service delivery at WWF5, Istanbul

“Health, Dignity and Economic Progress: The Way Forward for Gender Equity” “Developing and Monitoring Gender-Sensitive Sustainable Sanitation Programmes and Indicators for MDG7”

Monday 16 March 2009, 14:30 and 18:30

Ayvansaray, Sütlüce Congress Centre, Istanbul, WWF5

The Special Session is of particular relevance for how we can attain the MDGs, especially MDG7. The many-facetted issues of this Special Session will be elaborated on from the high-level political viewpoint and by the international community and individual experts from around the world. Additionally, we foresee vigorous participation from the audience on how to focus on gender equity in the WATSAN sector regarding policy development and the removal of any social, cultural and institutional obstacles. We hope, of course, for an exciting dialogue and anticipate that all participants will learn from each other. Indeed, focus is on operationalysing the commitments that have already been made to achieve enhanced health, dignity, gender equity and poverty alleviation as a result of sanitation service delivery.
